Join AIA Southwest WI and CSI Madison in touring the recently completed Quarra Stone building.
This event will introduce participants to modern stone fabrication and architectural production, from facility design to final installation. Attendees will learn about the challenges of creating efficient production spaces and how new technologies are integrated to improve workflow and output. The program will explore how digital tools such as 3D scanning, CNC machining, and robotics are used to create precise and customized stone designs. Participants will also gain an understanding of the key considerations involved in installing stone in memorials and monuments, including structural stability, site conditions, and respect for cultural significance. In addition, the event will discuss the challenges of sourcing stone for new construction and restoration projects, highlighting the importance of material selection and preserving historical integrity. Real-world examples will show how technology and craftsmanship come together in contemporary stonework.
