Our AIA National Representatives

Melissa Schulteis, AIA
AIA Strategic Council Representative

AIA’s Strategic Council identifies important professional issues and opportunities for the Board of Directors and other AIA teams. This includes surveying the profession and informing AIA goals, objectives, strategies, and the AIA 2021-2025 Strategic Plan. The council meets in assembly to deliberate and forms small groups to explore topics and develop recommendations for the board's consideration.

Justin Marquis, AIA
Young Architect Representative (YAR)

The Young Architects Forum (YAF), a program of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the College of Fellows (COF), is organized to address issues of particular importance to recently licensed architects, within 10 years of licensure. YAF is an outgrowth of a 1989 AIA Grassroots program. The issues raised and potential benefits visualized at that meeting led to the 1991 formation of a national YAF advisory committee to encourage the development of national and regional programs of interest to young architects and the creation of YAF groups within local chapters.

Brittany Peterson, Assoc. AIA
State/Territory Associates Representative (STAR)

State/Territory Associates Representatives (STARs) represent the interests of AIA Wisconsin's Associate members to the National Associates Committee (NAC). NAC is the voice of Associate members of AIA. Associates (19% of national AIA membership) are united by their desire to advance their careers while serving as a catalyst for progress in the Institute and the profession. The NAC consists of the Advisory Committee (AdCom) and the state volunteer leaders (State/Territory Associate Representatives (STARs).

Dan Beyer, AIA
Small Firm Exchange (SFx) Representative

The mission of the AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx) is to advance the mutual interests of architects practicing in small firms. Small Firms represent 75% of firms, 16% of employees, and 12% of billings in the profession. The objectives of the AIA SFx are three-fold:
1. Advocate the value of small firms, the national SFx, and local SFx groups, both within the AIA and to the public.
2. Curate and disseminate the most pertinent resources and information, from the AIA & elsewhere, that benefit small firms.
3. Inform the AIA of current issues facing small firms and areas in which current resources/information are lacking.
