The Wisconsin Architects Foundation's primary mission is to shape the future of architecture by investing in programs and people laying the groundwork for our state's built environment. From awarding scholarships to Wisconsin architecture students to providing grants for educational programs, the foundation remains steadfast in its belief that building a better Wisconsin requires the support of architectural learning opportunities.

WAF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity and gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Established in 1953, the Wisconsin Architects Foundation was created to smooth the economic path for architecture students attending Midwestern schools and is known as the first and only organization of its kind set up by an AIA chapter. It remains the philanthropic and educational arm of AIA Wisconsin, where it serves to support architectural development through youth education and research grants, and technical school and university student scholarships.
AIA Members are also members of the Wisconsin Architects Foundation and are encouraged to participate in WAF fundraising activities and donating to our mission annually.
• Established the School of Architecture and Urban Planning at UW-Milwaukee. This school is now one of the leading architecture programs in the country.
• Awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to Wisconsin architecture students.
• Acquired and subsequently restored the historic Joseph J. Stoner House (an 1855 Italianate building made of indigenous sandstone) in Madison in 1983, a National Landmark and the current headquarters of WAF and AIA Wisconsin.
• Helped launch the Wisconsin Architectural Archive (WAA) at the Milwaukee Public Library. Founded by Thomas Eschweiler, this massive collection holds tens of thousands of drawings representing the architects who shaped Wisconsin’s history.
