| Codes + Standards Committee |
AIA Codes and Standards Committee has shifted focus from the 2027 code cycle to the 2030. Serving as the voice of the AIA, the Codes and Standards Committee represented the Institute throughout the multi-year hearing process concluding with the final action hearings this last April. As licensed professionals, we are governed by laws and rules as well as adopted codes and standards that regulate the built environment. The AIA Codes and Standards Committee remains one of the longest-standing committees representing our profession in the arena where those regulations are created and edited.
The model codes and standards are commonly revised on a three-year cycle, and the work of tracking the broad spectrum of regulations is a constant for the committee. The presence of the Institute at the hearings is invaluable, where the ultimate administration of the rules on behalf of the owner(s) rests with our profession. Effective and successful representation of our profession in the codes and standards arena begins with engagement.
AIA Wisconsin is also served by our component-based Codes and Standards Committee. A number of our AIA Wisconsin members serve at the national level not only on behalf of the AIA but also on International Code Council (ICC) committees. Please contact any of the AIA Wisconsin Codes and Standards Committee members to inform them of any concerns that should be addressed. The diversity of our practice is often reflected in the rules that govern our built environment. The AIA Wisconsin Codes and Standards Committee not only serves as a resource at our component level but also represents AIA Wisconsin at the national level. At the national level, those voices are brought together to build on our national model of advocacy, representing those of us charged with meeting health, safety and welfare of all who work, visit, and reside in our buildings.
