Join AIA Northeast Wisconsin members for a tour of the Trout Museum of Art/Lawrence University building tour in downtown Appleton.

Participants will tour the newly completed Trout Museum of Art and Lawrence University building. They will learn about how the project was developed as a joint venture between the two institutions, and how it was collaboratively designed and constructed using a design/build project delivery method. They will learn about how the mix of uses and shared ownership of the building affected the design approach to the building's site orientation, building systems, circulation/access, life safety features, security. 

Following the tour, there will be an optional happy hour social networking event at a nearby establishment on College Ave. for those who wish to stick around.

• Please plan to arrive early so the tour can begin promptly at 3:30pm. Address: 321 E. College Ave. (corner of E. College and Drew St.). Parking is available either on the street or in one of several nearby parking ramps.
• It is anticipated that the building will receive its occupancy permit prior to the tour date. Therefore, hardhats and other PPE will not be required for this tour.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn about programming for contemporary museum and higher learning spaces. They will explore some of the innovative approaches to designing collaborative, flexible and interdisciplinary learning environments for both the Trout museum of Art and for Lawrence University's academic spaces.
• Examine how the building's modular and pre-fabricated approach to constructing the upper stories resulted in an innovative solution to minimize on-site fabrication, expedite the overall schedule and reduce project cost.
• Explore how the mixed use occupancy impacted the life safety design, focusing on topics including floor separation, building circulation, access control, and egress.
• Identify the design/build approach allowed for an optimized, fast track approach to design, procurement, and overall project delivery and allowed for streamlined communication among all parties during the duration of the project, from programming and design through construction.
