The Milwaukee River is a 104-mile river that flows southwards from its source in Fond du Lac County, eventually converging with the Menomonee and Kinnickinnic Rivers before flowing into Lake Michigan. A significant part of Milwaukee's history and development, the river has transformed from an industrial center to a vibrant recreational amenity. AIA Milwaukee will dive-in to the rich architectural history and evolving urban scape of the Milwaukee River on this annual cruise.
As this year’s guide, Chris Rute brings decades of experience to illuminate processes of historic preservation and adaptive reuse along the Milwaukee River. Throughout his career, Chris has worked in various architectural settings and served as the manager of the City of Milwaukee Development Center. Currently, as principal of CR Design, Chris provides code consultation and plan review services throughout the plan approval and building permitting processes. With a passion for Historic Preservation and Adaptive Reuse, Chris serves as a committee member for the East Side Architectural Review Board.
