Garden Architecture in Context: A Tour of Residential Landscape Design by Scott Byron & Co.
Join AIA Wisconsin's CRAN for an in-depth garden tour of a now-established residential landscape in Elm Grove, WI, where architecture and landscape were designed in tandem to create a timeless, integrated living environment. Completed in 2012 and expanded in 2022, this project exemplifies the long-term value of cohesive collaboration, spatial strategy, and ecological consideration.
The design illustrates the long-term value of site-specific planning, strategic planting, and refined material selection in creating a residential landscape that supports both architectural expression and modern living. Featuring clean-lined retaining walls of gunmetal granite, Valders pavers at the patio and pool deck, and thermaled bluestone throughout, the hardscape elements ground the home and shape a series of purposeful outdoor rooms.
As the landscape has matured, its intent has become even more evident: to create a tranquil, spatially connected environment where form meets function. During this on-site tour, the design team will walk participants through the exterior environments, sharing insights into grading strategies, planting layers, and the collaborative process that brought this integrated vision to life.
