To round out an active year for AIA Northeast Wisconsin programs, we are pleased to offer a special end of the year combined event: A hardhat construction tour of the in-progress expansion of the Appleton International Airport which will be led by representatives from ATW, Miron Construction, and Mead & Hunt. Following the tour, join us for a holiday social at the nearby Wissota Chophouse restaurant for food and drink.

Program Description
AIA members will experience a guided hardhat building tour of the Appleton International Airport's terminal expansion currently in progress. The tour will be led by project representatives from Mead & Hunt, Miron Construction, and the Appleton Airport. This tour will identify the HSW requirements in its discussions of building systems, specifically mass timber structural systems, chilled beam and geothermal mechanical systems, and power storage. Additional topic highlights include code-related issues such as accessible and inclusive design, as well as covering sustainability topics concerning materials, mechanical systems, daylighting and indoor environment quality.
Learning Objectives
Demonstrate the benefits of mass timber construction towards structural and sustainability goals. Topics of focus include: Embodied carbon; Passenger experience; and Biophilic design
Identify the energy savings and occupant comfort provided by chilled beam stratification systems and geothermal heat transfer. Topics of focus include: Geothermal heat transfer; Chilled beam stratification heating/cooling; Energy conservation/savings; 100% redundancy
Explore the energy savings and facility resiliency provided by photovoltaics and power storage (microgrid) systems. Topics of focus include: Daylight sensing lighting and shade controls; Photovoltaic energy harvest; Microgrid electrical distribution
Identify the myriad ways Appleton Airport is providing inclusive, accessible spaces for user groups with diverse needs. Topics of focus include: Multi-user restrooms; Ramp-free 7' elevation change; Service Animal Relief Area; Neurodiverse support spaces; Lactation rooms; Meditation and prayer space; Design considerations for sensory limitations throughout
