This course explores specialty glulam applications for large clear spans, custom sizes, and unique structural forms beyond the limitations of standard span charts. Participants will gain an understanding of manufacturing capabilities, industry standards, specification requirements, and coordination considerations that support successful project delivery. The program also examines sustainability by comparing the carbon footprint and energy consumption of glulam with other common structural materials.

Learning Objectives:

• Gain insight into the available glulam sizes and manufacturing capabilities to allow for the design of long-span glulam structures.
• Examine the various industry #glulam standards so that designers will be confident in their specifications and understand tolerances allowed in ANSI A190.1 (Glulam Standards).
• Identify the importance of coordinating with other trades during the design process to account for in-service performance specific to glulam.
• Explore a comparison of energy consumption pertaining to structural materials; industry references will be provided.
