2007 Legislative Agenda

The AIA Wisconsin Board of Directors has approved a State Legislative Agenda that outlines positions on various issues that may be addressed during this legislative session. Issues include proposals to expand the sales tax to help balance the state budget (oppose), adequate funding for the state building program and preservation of the State Capitol (support), architect involvement in state building code development process (support), sales tax exemption for materials used in construction of public projects (support), continuing education for license renewal (support) and more. Design Awards

The Design Awards Committee invites your participation in the 2007 AIA Wisconsin Design Awards program. The deadline for entering your projects is January 19. Entry binders are due by no later than February 15. The 2007 Design Awards will be announced and presented at a special awards celebration on May 16 at Monona Terrace in Madison.

Internet Plan Rooms

Several members have expressed concerns about "Internet Plan Rooms" and similar approaches for electronically distributing project documents and other instruments of professional service. Issues include intellectual property rights and professional liability. The AIA Wisconsin Board of Directors discussed these issues at its December meeting in Milwaukee . A special task force was established to develop recommendations. Task force members include: Martin Sell, AIA, Juneau, Len Witke, AIA, Columbus , David Raysich, AIA, Brookfield, and Daniel Sisel, AIA, Milwaukee . Emerging Professionals Companion (EPC)

Attention interns and students! All you have to do is enter your NCARB record number and last name at the EPC home page and you have access to 225 exercises and 225 IDP Training Units . . . that's one-third of your Intern Development Program requirements. The EPC is a complete set of self-paced internship tools updated for current practice models. Because the EPC is directly aligned with the 16 IDP training areas, you can earn up to one year of IDP credit from NCARB by completing the EPC exercises and scenarios. Take control of your internship and career advancement online.

New IDP Mentor Training Program

In 2007, the AIA will rollout a comprehensive training program for IDP Mentors. The program will include an orientation to mentoring and how to include mentoring in every IDP experience. Training will be offered in various formats, including in-person seminars, self-study workbooks and webinars hosted by AIA national. This program, in support of improving the IDP Mentor role for interns across the country, is a direct result of the work done by the IDP Coordinating Committee in its comprehensive evaluation of the IDP Program.

AIA Wisconsin Convention & Expo

Reserve May 16 & 17 for the 2007 AIA Wisconsin Convention & Expo, Palimpsest , at Monona Terrace in Madison. An outstanding program of keynote presentations, seminar sessions, product and service displays and other special events is being assembled by this year's Convention Committee, which is chaired by Rob Wheat, AIA, Monroe. Keynote speakers include Tod Williams, FAIA, and James Timberlake, FAIA. Watch your inbox and mailbox for Convention & Expo program details and registration materials.

AIA Contract Documents

The AIA has released an update to the AIA Contract Documents software. The revised software features a redesigned look to make it even more intuitive and simple to use. The updated software is available to new and existing customers. The update is provided at no additional cost to existing customers.
