Location: Kimberly at Liberty Hall

800 Eisenhower Dr  Kimberly, WI 54136 View map
Social: 5:15 pm, Cash Bar

Dinner: 6:00 pm

Chapter Meeting: 7:00 pm

Presentation: 7:20 pm - 8:30 pm "Architectural Relief"

Presenter: Janine Glaeser, AIA, Architects Without Borders

AIA Southwest Wisconsin Chapter Officer Janine Glaeser, AIA, will give a presentation on her travels with Architects Without Borders on a Haiti relief trip and report on the status of the rebuilding efforts. Rebuilding Haiti begins with the evaluation of existing structures.  She will share her experiences on conducting ATC-20 post earthquake building evaluations in Petit Goave, Haiti.  Seven months after the earthquake, many people are still living, conducting classes, and providing health care in tents. By determining post earthquake structural integrity and providing repair guidelines, the ultimate goal is to get people out of tents and back into safe buildings.

Learning Objectives:

-Define current building practices in Petit Goave, Haiti and how the climate, geography and local customs influence structures.

-Discover the ATC-20 post earthquake evaluation procedures and how to apply them to a building during an onsite assessment. Identify the reasons why so many buildings failed during the January 12, 2010, earthquake.

-Summarize recommendations for repairs of typical Haitian architecture that were damaged during the earthquake – i.e. guidelines for minor repairs, guidelines for major repairs and standards for new construction.
